Surveillance
/ Case Two
This
involves a well known international company (not
named here for confidentiality). An employee
had gone off on sick leave as the result of an operation.
The operation had allegedly gone wrong with the
consequence that the employee was unable to twist,
turn, bend and generally carry out normal work duties.
The senior managers at the factory got feedback
from other employees that the "sick" employee
was attending car boot sales as a business venture.
A covert video surveillance was mounted on the "sick"
employee and the subject was followed during the
day. Each Sunday the subject was followed to a large
car boot sale starting extremely early. AMIS Ltd
were able to video the subject setting up the stall:
twisting, bending, turning and doing all the things
that he was unable to do at work.
The video was time dated and all footage was transferred
to a normal VHS tape for use in an ordinary video
recorder and was handed to his employer who was
able to use it at a disciplinary hearing. The footage
obtained, prevented the subject from alleging unfair
dismissal and going to an industrial tribunal.
